"'Post' Title: Family Dynamics In The Real World

"Since they won't ever take me seriously, for a few months after graduation I'm going to let them think they are right, I'm going to let them think that I'm "coming around to see their side of things" and that our relationship is stabilizing. And then, once the time is right, with one abrupt, swift action I'm going to completely knock them out of my life. I'm going to divorce them as my parents once and for all and never speak to either of those idiots again as long as I live. I'll be through with them once and for all, forever." (Krakauer 64).

Topic: The Dynamics of Family.

I can strongly understand McCandless' feelings when he wrote this letter as I myself have several times wanted to just escape from my parents' grip over my life and live off the radar surviving off the earth as I honestly believe is the natural and proper way to live. Growing up McCandless showed several signs of being much more comfortable in nature and getting along with animals, along with his distant relationship with those around him I feel this greatly helped prepare him for this journey. I personally do not have the skills needed to survive in the world but I feel very inspired by McCandless' decision to, I have been planning for some time now to drive cross country after high school and after reading about his journey I feel more certain that it is something I have to do. I feel that the life we as a civilization live everyday where we rely on technology to do things for us is not a natural life and not something that we should rely on.
