'Post' Title: A Foolish Inspiration
"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future" (Krakauer 56-57).
Topic: Inspiration or Fool?
We are supposed to say whether or not we think McCandless was an inspiration or a fool but I think he was an inspirational fool. I think this because I do believe he was inspirational but several times in the story McCandless makes foolish and brash decisions. One such example of this is how he believes that due to his past experiences he is already prepared and able to handle Alaska without any training or experience in the region. He also seems to believe that he would be able to handle any situation that arises regardless of how much preparation he has. Despite all of this he was able to inspire and change the lives of people he met all across the country, including 81-year-old Ron Franz who decided to change his lifestyle and live like Chris did. McCandless' journey and chosen lifestyle are very inspiring to me but I believe he acted very impulsively and did not take the proper care and time he should have in his journeys.
